Shock Wheelchair finish a historical season by taking bronze at the prestigious National League Championship Finals.
Having won their league in style, Shock qualified for 2015 BWB National Championships where the nation’s leading club teams battled it out for the final time this season at the home of the 2015 European Wheelchair Basketball Championships.
Sheffield Steelers v Swindon Shock
The second game of the Division 3 round robin saw the Sheffield Steelers and Swindon Shock tip off in a fantastic encounter. The South West team edging out an 11-10 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The following quarter the continued the nailbiting match-up, the teams locked on 23 points apiece at half time.
In the third quarter, there was nothing to separate the two teams as they both fired home another 10 points to enter the final 10 minutes level on 33-33.
An incredibly tense final quarter then ensued; Swindon Shock showing great composure under the basket to push ahead by 6 points (39-33) before the Sheffield Steelers closed the deficit back down to a single point (40-41). Refusing to panic, Swindon maintained their focus to close out a 46-40 win.
Lancaster Bulldogs v Swindon Shock
Building upon their earlier win, Swindon Shock capitalised on their opportunities in the game’s opening 10 minutes to take a 16-9 lead over the Lancaster Bulldogs.
Lancaster, however, hit back in the second quarter to level the game on 24 points at half time.
The gritty encounter continued into the third quarter; the Lancaster Bulldogs edging ahead by 46-38 with just 10 minutes left on the clock.
Both teams continued to pile on the pressure in the final quarter, but it was the Lancaster Bulldogs who emerged victorious with a 54-44 win.
Bears v Swindon Shock
The Bears continued their strong form at the start of the last of the Division 3 round robin game: soaring to a 17-7 lead against Swindon Shock.
The Warwickshire team continued to find the basket at the start of the second quarter, but the Swindon team rallied together to come back within eight points of their opponents with just under five minutes left in the half: the Bears ahead by 20-12. Keeping their composure, the Bears then found a way to extend their lead to enter half time up by 36-18.
The Bears continued to push forwards in the third quarter, battling to a 50-32 lead with just 10 minutes left on the clock.
The final quarter saw both teams battling hard, but it was the Bears who closed out a 60-49 win and with it the top spot in Division 3.
