The junior boys section of Swindon Basketball Club and has been providing opportunities for young players to develop and improve for over 30 years. Many of our former players are now playing senior basketball from local league to National League standard for Swindon Shock and other clubs further afield.
The club is affiliated to Basketball England, the National Governing Body, and is organised and run by a small group of volunteers. Our coaches are fully qualified; the main priority of our club coaching sessions is that players learn good habits and the basic fundamental skills of basketball that will allow them to progress to as high a standard as their potential allows. We normally enter teams in either the South West Regional League or the National League every season, depending on the strength of the squad of players we have available. If players aspire to playing basketball to this standard, they will need to make a commitment to training every week. Although our main priority is to develop players with the skills that will allow them in time to move on to play senior basketball, the club has been Runner Up in the South West Regional League and in the National League (South West Division) in the last 4 years.
All our players pay weekly training fees to help us cover the costs of running the club. Our main expenditure is on court hire for our training sessions and matches. Currently during 2016-17 we are running weekly sessions for beginners and improvers (aged 7 – 14) and have an Under 16 team in the South West Regional League. We always welcome new players who have an interest in becoming better at basketball. We are based at Dorcan Complex, St Paul’s Drive, Swindon, SN3 5BY, where we hold all our training sessions, and host our home matches.
Our current training programme is as follows: (starting from Monday 5th September 2016)
New players are always welcome to our beginners and improvers sessions. Players who wish to try out for our Under 16 squad should have some previous playing experience. You can always contact the club (see below) to see which session will suit you best.
