The year for Swindon shock was an absolute roller coaster with many ups and downs. Shock Wheel Chair won the Development league with an undefeated record, turning the clock from a year before in which they struggled to win any games. Shock Women climbed to the top of the table for weeks, and finally settled for a mid season tie for 4th. The ladies team was never low on effort as they just fell short of reaching the finals of the Trophy in the last 5 minuets of a grueling match with Bristol Braves.

Shock University will receive the leagues Sportsmanship Award for fair play after its first year in the League. A tribute to the team and their coaches who found their own groove as the season progressed. Shock National closed the season strong after a rocky start and have entered back into Div 4 National League with hopes of truly pushing for a league title.

After a tremendous start Shock Development finished the season on a down note but will get to the Trophy finals. It is up to the league to decide if they will receive a promotion after finishing runners up to Calne. It is certain the Development team is capable of beating most teams, whilst inconsistency has cost them games against others.

Then there is the Shock first team who grew stronger as the season went on and began to learn from their mistakes. They will now play Shock Development for the Trophy Championship this Sunday in Bristol. All in all what a magnificent year for Swindon Shock, and by all accounts things look to get better as quality players have already begun to join the ranks.

One thing we know for sure is Swindon Shock will be bringing at least 3 trophies home by the seasons end.

Big Thanks to Tirtha Bura, Rajeev Gurung, Nicole Cunningham, Vicky & David Smedley, Gabor Kollar, George Corless, Pratista Rai, Ben White, Kate Colclough, Chris Jones, (new mom) Stephanie Benson Ben Fox, Ben Humphrey, Alana Sargent, Lewis Bird, Jamie Hamilton and lastly John Stow. Thanks for your help with the tables, coaching, editing and all the little things you did to make this club successful. Honestly without your help Shock is not where it is today and on behalf of myself and the rest of the club. We thank you all.

Sincerely

David Colclough

After late road game collapses against Bristol and Gloucester, Swindon Shock National Team are finding out the meaning of home court advantage. Swindon Shock stunned a very good Oxford Side 73-70 a few weeks ago and followed it up by dispatching one of the top sides Chichester Thunder 86-77.

Nic Hypolite led the team effort with 29 points and some key shooting that helped stretch the lead late in the second half. The team also welcomed back Mantas Kmita and his 15 points after being away for the last 4 weeks. Matt Ford also played one of his best games of the season chipping in 13 points and some monster slam dunks.

Chichester started the game at a blistering pace jumping out to a 22-14 lead after the first quarter. Swindon were able to gather themselves in the second quarter and great team play and ball movement allowed them to take a 42-36 halftime lead.

Unlike the Gloucester game, Swindon came back to start the third quarter with all its starters healthy and extended their lead, 68-54. Before closing out the game out 86-77.

After a day of talking to BBC Wiltshire’s Marie Lennon, Swindon Shock backed up its talk in front of a solid crowd and got the win. Please go to http://www.sportswindon.com/ to see photos.

Honorable mention goes to the grunt work and defensive play of Dan Chambers and David Colclough who combined to shut down Chichester star player J. McLaren and limit him to just 10 points after scoring the first 6 points of the game.

“We need to continue to make our home court a fortress” said Matt Ford after the game.

Whilst the regular season has been a roller coaster for Swindon Shock 1st team the playoffs have brought good fortune. A regular season victory over Swindon Cavaliers and back to back playoff wins over Wizards and Speedwell seem to have set the ship in the right direction.

Shock University have had their games snowed out but are looking to gain their first playoff win against KBI.

Shock Development fell in overtime to Cavs 40 whose experience got them through a tough match.

Shock Wheelchair will open up their development league games this Saturday at Youth 1st 12:30pm tip, where coach Jamie Hamilton has his new team primed and ready to get their first development team win.

As the Season unfolds Shock Women find themselves a point out of 1st place, whilst the Development team are a game behind at a chance for promotion. Shock University have also had a strong showing and played a great game against the Development team earlier in the week.

Shock National who have been sponsored by Advance Plasma Power and Nationwide Building Society, continue their roller coaster season, failing to pick up a victory in their last three games after an impressive opening win against Woking Blackhawks.

The Shock first team local league also have also displayed some troubling traits of blowing fourth quarter leads in their last two home games.

Shock Wheel Chair have had a strong campaign and now find themselves 3 and 1 in their first four games of the season. While the Shock U18, wheel chair team traveled to Stoke Mandeville this weekend hoping to continue their strong start.
