Swindon Shock Junior Basketball

Swindon Shock Junior Basketball

Are you interested in playing basketball on a regular basis? Swindon Shock are starting new sessions soon for current year 7s and 8s. Our sessions are based at Dorcan Complex Sports Hall, Swindon, SN3 5DA on Monday evenings. It helps if you’ve had some previous experience, but if you want to improve, having a commitment to regular practice and working hard are more important. If we have sufficient players who show this commitment, we intend to run a team to play in regular tournaments across the region next season. If you would like to indicate your interest in possibly participating, ask your parents to contact us on shockjuniors@gmail.com with your name and date of birth, and we will forward them more details. If you are currently in year 9 or 10, you can still contact us, and we will let you know about sessions starting soon with our partner club, Gloster Jets who organise sessions in Cirencester for their teams on Friday evenings.

Shock start the New Year with a bang.

Not only did Swindon Shock welcome back former Point Guard Antonio Wilburn during the Christmas break.  But the team came out on fire and ready for business after a month long layoff.   Sharp shooting Chris Cole remained hot on the 3 point line knocking down his first 5 shots and 6 3pt shots in the game.  Alistair Tilney made his way back to the starting lineup with a a couple of strong training session that carried on into the game, as the young shooting guard had quick baskets and timely block shots to help push the team to a 18 to 2 run early into the second quarter.  In addition Ollie Swann saw valuable game time as his speed and power led to easy baskets and the young guard continues his growth at the national level.  Spencer Wells and Matt North followed up the game with dagger breaking shots in the second half that stole the will of Oxford and diminished any hopes of a comeback.  Junior player Ben Clark got in on the action midway in the 4th quarter and recorded a rebound and an assist to increase his own game experience.  Although it was a great victory for the team Shock are still dealing with a couple of injuries from Lee Hobbis (arm) and David Colclough (Ankle) that have limited and sidelined the players.  Shock will have a bye week, next week before welcoming Woking Black Hawks on the 28th at New College tip 2pm.

After falling behind by 4 points early, match MVP Spencer Wells quickly scored 10 of his 29pts in the first quarter helping Shock to an early 21-14 lead. After a close second quarter that saw shock add 2 more points to their lead. Sharp Shooting Mantas Kmita hit two 3pt baskets bring his match total to 17pts and small forward Matt North added to his match total of 14pts to give shock a comfortable 60 to 45 lead going into the 4th quarter. With the bench in late in the game gaining valuable experience of closing out a game, Woking would battle back slightly, ultimately falling 77-68. Swindon Shock will now travel to Exeter October 1st to open up its regular season. Then moving on to Cardiff October 2nd for the second round of the National cup.
